Why do so many Americans intentionally choose to be really fat?

I live in Oklahoma and man there are some fat people. The police chief of my town looks like 450lbs plus. An every once in a while I'll go into to Golden Coral to see everyone in the restaurant 300lbs at least. People use food as a drug. Then once your obese there is no turning back.
