Who was that journalist/doentary film maker who converted to Catholicism?

I've heard of this one guy who wanted to film some sick people at a poor African hospital in order to make a doentary or a news report. There wasn't enough light in the room to get good quality footage and the nuns refused to turn on the lights. One nun said to believe in God and he'll help with the filming or something of the sort. The journalist was an atheist and didn't believe in God. The quality of the video was extremely good despite the shortage of light at the filming time. I expect this was a while ago when cameras were still very old-fashioned and there was no such computer program to improve a video's quality. He eventually became a Catholic after that experience. Does this ring a bell to anybody?
