What's the best way to get scorch marks out of a rug?

When we had the fire lit, a small freak accident happened. There was a bang in the fireplace and a small piece of wood burst out of it and managed to shoot out of the grate, under the fire guard, off the fire proofing in front of the fire and onto the rug leaving 2 black scorch marks as it bounced. The marks are about 5cm x 3cm. What's the best way to get rid of the marks or, make them less conspicuous? Thanks for your answers:-)
