Best guitar plug-in for metal music?

So I'm using Pro Tools 8 LE with a gibson V guitar and Mesa boogie triple rectifier half stack. I want a guitar tone in the vein of Korn/Godsmack/Disturbed for rhythm and Bullet for my valentine/Avenged Sevenfold/All that Remains for lead. This is my *ideal* I'll settle for as close as possible. I heard the best way to get a good tone is to record my guitar pretty clean without distortion and effects and then apply guitar plug-in for the finished product. Can anyone recommend a good guitar plug-in that will work with Pro Tools that can get me close to my desired tone? Feel free to educate me further about this process. Thanks!
