I have no contract and was renting a place that is unliveable can he do anything since I moved out?

My sister and I were renting a house along with her kids, when we moved in the house it needed to be cleaned from top to bottom it had been sitting empty for a while. The guy told us that by cleaning we would work off the security deposit. Once we moved in we had to replace many things, including getting water to our kitchen. Put new flooring thur out the house and did alot of work, in return he gave us a free half months rent and put alitte propane in our tank which we never used cause it got hot outside fast. Well once we moved in we relized that the house was infested with spiders and soon found that we have VERY poisous ones along with mold in the basement and one day a snake! We called him about the mold he said just paint over it, called about spiders and he said he would have someone come spray, a week went by so we finally just did a home bombing, it seemed to help for a while but then they came back, we were offered a house from a family member when they seen what was going on, so we bought it. We told the landlord and just packed up and moved. He wants us to pay our light bill and is now saying we had no security depost. We have NO contract with the guy and he just called and said if we dont pay he will be taking it to collections. Does anyone know if he has a case? We had to move b/c the house was unliveable and he is going to be renting it already cause he has someone who wants it. Also we took care of animals out there for him which we used our water and bld out there. My sister used everything to move and now that he is saying we had no deposit she is upset and she took everything to move. Just wondering if anyone knows if he has a case.
